Abstract

It’s 2025. We’ve been talking about the fundamental insecurity and unreliability of the network for at least ten years, and there are great options for addressing these issues these days.So why are folks still running applications without secure communications instead of taking advantage of these options? Are they trusting Kubernetes to protect them? Do they think security is too complex? Are we as an industry just doing a terrible job explaining that it’s important? In this session, we’re going to tease apart the barriers to good security in the cloud. We’ll talk about meshes, application code, and memory safety, but above all we’ll talk about operational simplicity and how the real key to security is understanding what’s happening in your application. You’ll leave this talk with actionable information about taking charge of your own security, illustrated with examples using Linkerd, but applicable everywhere.
